In EMarket Water Values are created for all Runs for a period of one year. This means that for multi-year Runs Water Values are 're-cycled', with the second Run year using the same Water Values to derive Hydro Offers as the first Run year. In order to accurately create output for a five year period it is recommended that you create five separate Run Definitions, each capturing the factors influencing Water Value calculation for the relevant year in the Forecast timeline.
Through Run Chaining, single-year Run Definitions can be linked so that the end Hydro storage levels of one Run become the starting levels for the next Run in the sequence. In this way the Results from the chained Definitions form a single logical Forecast for the entire Forecast period.
To Prepare a chain of Run Definitions for execution:
- Define the Run Definition for each year's run using the Run Window, making sure each Definition:
- Is created to model the electricity market as it is expected to be at the time you want to have Forecast results (e.g. new Generators are included, old ones retired and Demand is adjusted)
- Has the Auto Calc Water Values field set to true
- Is linked to the previous one in the sequence by including the predecessor's Run name in the Continue Storages from Preceding Run field of the Run Window.
- Combine the Run Definitions into a single Batch in the correct temporal sequence using the Batch Window
Warning: The Batch Run will fail if Run Definitions are included into the Batch in a sequence that is neither temporally contiguous nor consistently chained through the Continue Starting Storages Option.
Note: The Run Versions created by inflow years through the volatility engine are continuous across chained years. This means that values associated with the 1940 inflow version in the second Run continue the 1939 version in the first Run. In other words, if the Run outputs are joined into one continuous output values for the 1939 Version would represent one logically continuous sequence.
